PNM donates earthquake relief to survivors in Tapanuli, North Sumatra

n Oct. 1, a tectonic earthquake struck North Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra. The disaster left 1.316 houses, 72 places of worship, 31 irrigation channels and other facilities destroyed. Later in the same day, an aftershock occurred as residents stood outside their houses to prepare for evacuation.

Therefore, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) through its Environment and Social Responsibility (ESR) program initiated a donation of 300 staple-food packages for customers,

PNM employees and locals who were affected by the earthquake. The program aimed to help making ends meet food needs after the disaster. The aid was distributed in Tarutung city, North Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, on Wednesday.

The event was attended by the head of the BNI Tarutung branch, Hendra, and leader of the PNM Kabanjahe branch, Indra Irawan. “My condolences to customers, employees and the surrounding community who are affected by the earthquake that occurred in early October 2022. With this donation of staple-food packages, we hope to alleviate the burden of earthquake victims," ​​said Indra during a speech.

“We hope that PNM customers and employees remain patient after the disaster and we pray that no more disasters will happen,” Hendra said during the symbolic handover.

“We thank PNM for being present in our midst, assisting and meeting with customers who are affected in a disaster that happened quite far away. We hope there will be no more disasters, especially earthquakes, that threaten and traumatized the community from resuming their activities in the fields,” said Hernawati, a customer of PNM Mekaar.

As of Oct. 19, PNM has disbursed a total of Rp 147.37 trillion (US$9.4 billion) to fund 12.9 million PNM Mekaar customers. PNM has over 4,138 PNM Mekaar offices across Indonesia in 34 provinces, 422 regencies and cities and 5.64 districts.
