PNM commemorate World Handwashing Day in Central Lombok with Water.org

andwashing is the second pillar of the government’s community-led total sanitation campaign that has been running for the past few years.

When the COVID-19 pandemic emerged two years ago, the government scaled up its campaign, encouraging people to adopt handwashing with soap as a daily habit to protect their health as well as the wellbeing suround them.

PT Permodalan Nasional Madani held an awareness program highlighting the importance of handwashing by utilizing the soap on Saturday (22/10). The event was held in front of the Central Lombok Regency Administration enclose, in West Nusa Tenggara.

The program drew the attendance of 500 people, which comprised 250 customers of the PNM Mekaar microfinance facility and 250 residents of the surrounding community, specifically women from low-income families. Members of the local Family Welfare Movement (PKK) also joined the program as agents of change, as did members of the local disabled community.

Aside from awareness, the event also pursued an education angle by teaching the participants how to wash their hands using soap and running water in a proper way. It also recommended the most crucial times for handwashing with soap and how to incorporate the practice into their everyday lives.

PNM leader Dimas Hari Pondang was present at the event, as were Central Lombok Regent H. Lalu Pathul Bahri and Water.org senior program manager Aldi Surianingrat.

As of Oct. 19, 2022, PNM has disbursed microloans totaling Rp 147.3 trillion (US$9.4 billion) to 12.9 million PNM Mekaar customers. PNM has over 4,138 PNM Mekaar offices and 639 PNM ULaMM service branches across Indonesia’s 34 provinces, including 422 regencies and cities and 5,640 districts.
