s part of their capacity as global climate trailblazers, the delegations and embassies of the European Union member states around the world hold various events to foster dialogue and cooperation on climate change, showcase success stories and inspire further action.

In the lead up to the Conference of the Parties (COP27) in November, the EU delegation to ASEAN has prepared a series of events to be held from Oct. 25 to 31 as part of the Climate Diplomacy Week.

The week opened with a Climate Diplomacy Fair in the Philippines with PechaKucha talks from six environmental youth leaders, followed by school campaigns on protecting biodiversity in Vietnam.

In Indonesia, the EU delegation to ASEAN launched the CE-YOU Tomorrow campaign with BuangDisini (finalist in the Youth Sustainable Project Competition 2021).

Built around the concept of the circular economy (CE) and youth (YOU), the week-long event will kick off a long-term campaign of plastic waste collection in popular spots across Malang, East Java, in partnership with BuangDisini.

Like many other cities in Indonesia, Malang is facing the challenges of managing and reducing the 485 tonnes of waste the city produces every day. BuangDisini will install waste drop-off bins at partnering coffee shops around the city, and will regularly pick up the waste for further recycling/upcycling. The bins are also designed to include infographics on waste separation to further build the awareness of the communities in Malang.

With the TRASH FOR CASH program, people can also exchange their trash for food or drinks at their favorite participating cafes.

Peatlands Photo Exhibition and Climate Action

In partnership with the Sustainable Use of Peatlands and Haze Mitigation (SUPA), the EU delegation to ASEAN has curated 20 photos to be printed on recycled cardboard and displayed as a series of interconnected modules in front of BNI City station in the Jakarta Car Free Day on Oct. 30.

In addition, in partnership with the World Clean Up Day, the organizing committee invites everyone to come and bring their recyclables along and drop them off at the event’s collection point. There will also be a series of games on-site where participants can play and win special prizes.
