G20 Indonesia 2022

State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir held the Appreciation Night for SOEs’ Support in the G20 at Sasono Utomo & Sasono Langen Budoyo in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta on Tuesday. The event, which was attended by officials from the SOEs Ministry as well as directors and employees from SOEs, was to show appreciation for the contribution of all companies and people involved in the preparation and implementation of the series of events in the Indonesian Group of 20 presidency. The event was also used to strengthen and improve communication and collaboration between the ministry and SOEs that will be sustainable in the future.

Since preparations began for the G20 earlier in the year up until the summit in November, the SOEs Ministry along with SOEs successfully collaborated with fellow SOEs, ministries and institutions, as well as with strategic partners to successfully hold the Indonesian G20, including preparing supporting infrastructure that was completed on time.

The involvement of SOEs in the preparation and implementation of Indonesia’s G20 was coordinated by the Project Management Office (PMO) of the SOEs Ministry. Indonesia’s G20 presidency proves that Indonesia can be on an equal footing with other nations.

"Apart from teaching diversity, the most important thing is that the G20 aligns us with other nations. This is what we must maintain." said Erick in his speech. Erick went on to say that he appreciated the various parties who dedicated themselves to the success of Indonesia's G20 presidency.

"I have to appreciate how, behind the successful implementation of a world event like this, many parties have worked extraordinarily hard." he added.

This opportunity was also used by Erick to invite the SOEs Ministry and all enterprises present to observe a moment of silence for the death of PT Angkasa Pura I employee, I Gede Dewa Arimbawa Vayogayana while carrying out state duties.

Erick delivered certificates of appreciation, compensation and educational scholarships to the family of the deceased, in addition to other normative rights. Erick emphasized that the mandate of the G20 presidency carried the meaning of sustainability, and was not just a momentary ceremonial event.

“This is what I say, the G20 has passed, but what happened at the G20 must be maintained by us. This doesn’t mean everything is done when the G20 [is finished], because it takes a long time to position ourselves with our big countries," he added.

The G20 Summit was held in Bali on Nov. 15-16 and signaled the end of the Indonesian G20 presidency in 2022, which was handed over to India. The summit was attended by leaders from member countries of the multilateral cooperation forum to produce the G20 Bali Leaders’ Declaration and concrete deliverables that contained a list of cooperation projects from G20 member countries, as well as future invitations for collaboration.

The G20 taught us, as SOE employees, the importance of inclusive international cooperation. In addition, it showed that there is a need for support for increasing added-value through inclusive and sustainable investment in productive sectors, such as the downstream manufacturing sector, digital trade and services. Furthermore, it also highlighted the importance of bridging foreign investors with local companies, especially small and medium scale ones. This is in line with the implementation of the akhlak (morals) of SOEs.

Support was provided by SOEs starting from the preparation of supporting infrastructure in the form of airport revitalization and the construction of the Ngurah Rai Airport-Bali VVIP Building by Angkasa Pura I; the beautification of the Mandara toll road by PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk through PT Jasamarga Bali Tol; the security and fluency in the Nusa Dua area by ITDC; network availability with good bandwidth in all locations where the event was held by Telkom and Telkomsel; security and the availability of electricity supply and charging station infrastructure for electric vehicles throughout the G20 Summit by PLN; the tidying up of the main access road and aerial cables and preparation of the Tahura Mangrove Area by SOE Karya through to the provision and distribution of fuel for all delegations and representatives of each G20 member state by Pertamina. In the energy transition, SOEs also supported the creation of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by producing 24 electric buses by INKA and 66 electric motorbikes by WIMA Gesits.

In terms of communication and media, the SOEs Ministry, together with the SOEs, have supported publications surrounding the G20, both through LKBN Antara, state-owned media companies, as well as reporting at the national and international levels. SOEs also provided other support in holding side events for the G20 presidency such as the Business 20 (B20), Think 20 (T20), Women 20 (W20), Youth 20 (Y20), Music 20 (M20), Religion of 20 (R20) as well as Ocean20 and the Trade and Investment and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) through to the SOE International Conference.

The SOE International Conference was part of the TIIWG Road to G20 Indonesia, which was held by the SOEs Ministry on Oct. 17-18.

In addition to presenting conference sessions with international speakers, the SOE International Conference also included exhibitions featuring SOE products, initiatives and programs with a focus on successful transformation and the three priorities of Indonesia's G20 presidency, which were healthcare service architecture, energy transition and economic inclusion through digitalization.

The impact of the G20 presidency on the Indonesian economy can be seen as fantastic. Indonesia has secured funding commitments worth up to US$929.4 billion for a number of infrastructure projects and the energy transition. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has also revealed details of funding commitment, including at least 226 projects that are multilateral in nature with a value of up to $238 billion and 140 projects that are bilateral in nature with a value of $71.4 billion, which need to be followed up immediately.

Appreciation and gratitude for the support, enthusiasm, commitment, collaboration and dedication of all levels of the SOEs Ministry and SOEs involved in preparing and making the G20 Summit successful.
