IA Indonesia has reiterated its focus on improving sustainable health care and its support for the country’s economic recovery through financial literacy, prioritizing the quality of human resources and innovations with digital transformation.

The message was conveyed when the president director from the company had the opportunity to visit the State Palace on Friday (2/12/2022) for the 13th Kompas 100 CEO Forum. The event was attended by CEOs from across all industries, as well as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo himself. Speaking to guests, President Jokowi encouraged everyone to be optimistic and to work hand in hand to develop a major economy ecosystem which ensures that Indonesia stays relevant on the global level.

“We have all the natural resources [and] human resources. Not to mention Indonesia’s strategic position on the world trade routes. We need a grand design for a major ecosystem that makes other countries dependent on us,” the President said, highlighting the country’s strength.

PT AIA financial (AIA) president director Sainthan Satyamoorthy said that as a leading insurance company, AIA would continue addressing the low level of financial literacy and development of human resources, in order to help Indonesia developing in the future.

“Therefore, we have prepared three steps. First, to keep providing education to improve financial literacy for the community. Second, to prioritize the quality of the sales force so that it can help educate the community about the importance of proper protection. Third, to create innovations in products and services with digital transformation,” said Sainthan.

The government also has its own program to increase financial literacy among the people. The vision of the 2021 – 2025 National Strategy on Indonesian Financial Literacy (SNLKI) is “To create an Indonesian Society that has a high financial literacy index”. Therefore, Sainthan hoped that the government could support AIA’s program that was in line with the goal.

Moreover, he expressed his hope that the government would continue its support to help develop the potential of Indonesia’s insurance industry, given that the sector had contributed greatly to the capital market and government bonds to help accelerate development in Indonesia.

Previously, another event titled the Kompas CEO Live Series was held in Jakarta on Nov. 25, which AIA also took part in. Speaking at the event, Sainthan explained that AIA had a purpose to help millions of families in Indonesia live healthier, longer and better lives.

The company pays great attention to the pillars of health and wellness, which have been at the forefront of the company’s health prevention and promotion plans long before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Therefore, the company came up with AIA Vitality to better develop the health of the people across the region.

“Changing life habits and behavior is not easy for humans as creatures of habit. The main obstacle in efforts to prevent health risks is often oneself. We at AIA are well aware of this, which prompted us to introduce AIA Vitality, a health and wellness program that provides incentives for every healthy life choice our customers make to promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Sainthan.

The AIA Vitality uses science-based approaches to help Indonesian people start making little, realistic changes toward a healthy life. In the long term, these changes will result in behavioral change. With the new program, it is hoped that less people will need to seek treatment and go to the hospital. Moreover, if life expectancy escalates, people’s productive years and work productivity overall will increase in parallel.

AIA’s internal data shows that 81 percent of AIA Vitality members have normal glucose levels, 54 percent have normal blood pressure, 37 percent have normal cholesterol levels, and 30 percent have normal Body Mass Index (BMI) numbers.

In line with the government’s health transformation strategy that pushes preventive and promotional measures, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin encourages businesses in the health industry to support the government in transforming the health sector by prioritizing preventive and promotion measures.

He noted that countries with the most efficient health systems prioritized preventive and promotion measures in their health sectors, resulting in higher life expectancies and lower average health spending than countries like the United States.

“We [the government] are heading in that direction. Spending on promotion and preventive health programs will become a trend in government health policies, shifting from the previous curative policies. Because at the end of the day the best wealth is health,” Budi concluded.
