T AIA FINANCIAL (AIA), the leading and trusted life insurance company in Indonesia is bringing back the AIA Championship in 2023 after the pandemic. The AIA Championship is an annual football competition that opens opportunities for Indonesian talents to showcase their skills. This year, for the first time, each of the seven selected male and female players will compete at the international 2023 AIA Championship in London, the United Kingdom.
The AIA Championship is held as a realization of AIA’s purpose to help millions of families in Indonesia to live healthier, longer, and better lives. AIA understands that active participation in sports plays an important role in promoting a lifestyle aligned with that purpose.
“AIA's purpose is helping people, especially in Asia to live healthier, longer, better lives, underpinning everything we do as a company. We even have big ambitions that we call the AIA One Billion, which confirms AIA's commitment to engage and inspire people across Asia to improve their physical, mental, financial and environmental health. One of the ways that we think we can realize this ambition is through the most popular sport in the world, football,” said AIA Group Chief Marketing Officer Stuart Spencer.
“This year, the AIA Championship is back after being absent for two years due to the pandemic. The AIA Championship is an AIA initiative to encourage people to be active and move through football, a sport that is close to and of interest to many Indonesians. This year's AIA Championship is also the inaugural competition that will provide an opportunity for selected Indonesian football talents to showcase their abilities directly in London," remarked AIA Chief Marketing Officer Kathryn Parapak.
The 2023 AIA Championship in Indonesia is attended by 224 people from 32 teams, 16 from the Men’s League and 16 from the Women’s League. The competition is open to employees, sales forces, business partners and journalists, where each of the seven selected female players and seven male players will be selected to compete at the international level at Tottenham Hotspur's headquarters in London.
The competition is also part of AIA's partnership program with the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur of which AIA has been the Global Principal Partner for the club since a decade ago.
“We are very excited to see new talents shining in this year's AIA Championship. The partnership with Tottenham Hotspur has become a powerful tool to deepen engagement with the AIA community throughout the Asian region including Indonesia through various programs, one of which is the AIA Championship which has been present since 2016. This competition can hone and encourage the potential of football talents in Indonesia, as evidenced by AIA Championship in previous years where Indonesian players have successfully demonstrated their abilities at the regional level and even made it to the final,” said AIA Director of Football Initiatives & Sponsorship Andrian New.
Several players have previously joined the final league in London and have now played the sport professionally in the country, including Yongki Aribowo who has experience as a national team player and plays for several domestic football clubs. In addition, the AIA Championship has also become a stepping stone for Carla Bio Pattinasarany, a member of the Drupadi team who won the inaugural women's league AIA Championship in 2019 and now plays for the Asprov DKI team and is a member of the women's national team who competes in various international sporting events.
AIA's partnership commitment with Tottenham Hotspur for the development of football talent is also evident through the "AIA Football for the Nation" initiative, which has succeeded in bringing hundreds of young football talents to train with international standards at the AIA Elite Football Training Camp in Phuket, Thailand. Apart from that, this partnership has also facilitated and developed 1,600 young football talents in Indonesia by involving the Tottenham Hotspur International Development Coach.
