s a healthy and active lifestyle becomes progressively more important globally, this year, The Women’s 10K race makes an offline return collaborating with PT AIA FINANCIAL (AIA) for the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K 2023.
The theme of #RunYourPlayground for the fourth Women’s 10K event is increasingly relevant for Indonesian women’s active lifestyle. Through the theme, the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K 2023 aims to showcase how the running track can present itself as both a playground and an open space where women can explore and develop their personal capabilities.
The event that will be held on March 12, will see 1,000 women taking part to celebrate unity and inclusivity and to commemorate International Women’s Day.
“The goal of this event is not to find the strongest or the fastest, but to build a healthy lifestyle for women across Indonesia,” said Laila Munaf, Co-Founder of SANA Studio and the Women’s 10K.
By selecting the right environment and running track, the Women’s 10K provides reassuring safety and comfort for women when participating in the event. The route itself makes a tour around South Jakarta, with the starting and finishing point centred in The Buya, Cipete, South Jakarta.
Preserving the commitment to encourage women to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle has always been the pivotal mission since the event was first held.
Female participation within the sports sector is still relatively low at 30 percent, due to the social stigma that hinders women from participating in running or other sports-related activities. This issue led to the birth of the very first Women’s 10K event in 2020.
“The Women’s 10K is more than just a running event for women, it also serves as encouragement to increase female participation within the sports sector, as this is crucial in developing a healthy and empowered society,” Laila said.
In line with its mission to promote a healthy lifestyle and women’s empowerment in the Indonesian community, the Women’s 10K has linked up with AIA through its health and wellness program, AIA Vitality, which encourages Indonesian women to adopt an active and healthier lifestyle.
AIA Head of Corporate Communication Lia Merdekawaty expressed her appreciation for the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K in inspiring women to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“In conjunction with International Women’s Day, this event also represents AIA’s commitment to supporting women’s empowerment through health and wellness-related activities that align with our ESG [environmental, social, governance] focus. We hope this event will create continuity in the years to come so that it can have a positive impact on more Indonesian women,” she said.
AIA’s commitment to the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K is also manifested in the company’s efforts to raise awareness regarding the importance of personal health and early detection of diseases, primarily cervical cancer. In collaboration with biotechnology company Nusantics, AIA is offering free cervical cancer screening for 500 women, comprising AIA Vitality members, employees, customers and the general public including Women’s 10K participants.
“The collaboration with AIA and the Women’s 10K is one of our contributions to increase the awareness among women of risks in regard to cervical cancer, as it has the second highest cases in Indonesia . Through Nusantic’s innovation of HPV DNA urine screening, we hope that it will provide Indonesian women with access to a more comfortable experience when undergoing early detection,” said Nusantics Co-Founder and CEO Sharlini Eriza Putri.
This multi-sectored collaboration is paramount in building an inclusive and supportive community, as well as providing equal access to a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K plays a role in Indonesia’s 2023 ASEAN chairmanship, contributing to strengthening ASEAN’s relevance as the central growth for the economy, responding to challenges in regard to both local and global perspectives.
By inviting women to familiarize themselves with the running route, which holds its own history for both Jakarta and ASEAN, the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K also promotes the beauty of Indonesia for the global community, which is among within the main activities of ASEAN 2023.
In promoting a healthy lifestyle, the AIA Vitality Women’s 10K 2023 also presents a variety of supporting programs including the Sunday Run.
Held every Sunday since February, the program includes running training and fitness programs with the purpose of helping participants prepare themselves optimally to reach their full potential on the day of the event.
The other program is Goes to School, which involves youth, especially high-school students, to familiarize themselves with a healthy lifestyle through running. Gantar Velocity assists students in understanding the proper running techniques and reducing the risk of injury in sports. This program also serves to inspire students to participate in future AIA Vitality Women’s 10k events and to enjoy a greater health advantage.
To date, the AIA Vitality Women’s 10k Goes to School program has visited two schools, namely SMA 6 and SMA 70 Jakarta.
