atam aims to become a modern city by 2029 and is moving in that direction with development priority given to infrastructure construction, especially roads.
Currently, the main road to Hang Nadim International Airport is being improved, and in the coming years, the airport will be transformed into a world-class facility that has the capacity for 40 million passengers per year. To this end, all of the supporting infrastructure needs to be prepared starting now.
Under the plan, the road serving the airport will be widened to five lanes to accommodate a greater number of vehicles. The expansion will adhere to international road construction standards. A 20 centimeter layer of concrete pavement will be prepared before it is surfaced with asphalt to ensure that it lasts years.
Muhammad Rudi said that since his appointment as Chairman of Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam) in 2019, he had focused on completing the construction of infrastructure, especially the construction of roads, Hang Nadim Airport, Batu Ampar Seaport and a world-class international hospital.
When it comes to infrastructure, he set the target of completing the construction of all infrastructure, either main roads or the roads at public housing areas, by 2029.
“I am preparing the entire infrastructure, and Batam residents also need to prepare themselves well. We need to use this momentum as well as possible for your lives as residents of Batam in the future,” he said.
The Hang Nadim Airport development project kicked off in 2022 when BP Batam and PT Bandara International Batam (PT BIB) collaborated to form a consortium. The consortium is comprised of PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (Persero) and Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC).
The development project will cover the widening of Terminal 1 of the airport, the construction of Terminal 2 and the development of a cargo terminal. The project will follow a master development plan that seeks to create a Logistics Aerocity. It is expected to cost some Rp 6.89 trillion.
