Pertamuda, also known as Pertamina Muda Seed & Scale 2023, has officially opened.
ertamuda, also known as Pertamina Muda Seed & Scale 2023, has officially opened. The hybrid event, was opened by Pertamina corporate secretary Brahmantya S Poerwadi and Pertamina Stakeholder Relations & Management vice president Rifky Rakhman Yusuf in Grha Pertamina Ballroom on Wednesday.
Pertamuda is a business idea competition held by Pertamina for university students in Indonesia. Pertamuda's goal is to increase the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and innovation in the energy industry, while simultaneously encouraging Indonesian start-ups to improve their capabilities all the while presenting opportunities for them to receive investment.
Pertamina corporate secretary Brahmantya said Pertamuda 2023 marked the third event, having formed in 2021. He explained how the Pertamuda program was first introduced during the pandemic.
“At that time the pandemic had been ongoing for a year, and as an energy company, Pertamina had a special focus on the youth, toward young people’s ideas and feeling the need to dive in and revive start-ups that were crippled during the pandemic to boost national income,” Brahmantya explained.
The opening of Pertamuda 2023 was hoped to create new employment opportunities through efforts by the youth, supported by the academic community, thus building a better future for Indonesia.
“Through Pertamuda it is hoped that Pertamina can acquire new ideas, explore new energy utilization and create new energy sources aimed at generating new opportunities for Indonesian society,” he added.
Pertamina Stakeholder Relations vice president Rifky Rakhman Yusuf opened the Kick Off event, which marked the commencement of the Seed and Scale 2023 Business Idea competition. Pertamuda is open to public and private universities across Indonesia. Pertamuda Seed and Scale 2023 also encourages start-ups in Indonesia to enhance their businesses and provides opportunities for student start-ups to connect with access to capital.
“Pertamina has a role as an organizer, the overseer and the facilitator. Through Pertamuda, students have the opportunity to propose business ideas, especially in the innovative energy sector, with the potential for commercial development. Not only that, but Pertamina also provides technical support, mentorship and development funds to participants who successfully make it to the top three,” he added.
With the main theme of Energizing Your Future, Pertamuda Seed and Scale this year includes a new additional category called the Early Stage Start-ups that had previously been intergrated with other categories in 2021 and 2022. This category will curate early stage start-ups with business ideas that gained initial business traction through a focus on SDG values. The top three Early Stage Start-ups will each receive mentoring funds of Rp 100 million (US$6,571) to prepare their businesses for the scale-up stage.
“The new category is Elevator Pitch Energy Founders. So Pertamuda later will curate candidate founders who have ideas that focus on problem solving within the energy sector. The top three energy founders that are chosen will each receive mentoring funds of Rp 35 million to materialize their business ideas in the form of validation on paper [problem market fit on paper]. The Energy Founders category will be conducted first through online elevator pitching sessions in October 2023,” he added.
Pertamuda also hosted a seminar attended by competent speakers in the field of start-up, such as HMNS Perfumery founder and CEO Rizky Arief Dwi Prakoso, Meccanism & KKI COO Tasya Nur Medina, UpBanx founder and CEO Wafa Taftazani and TamanSchool CEO and top three in Pertamuda 2022 Mochammad Risky Altaresh.
HMNS Perfumery founder and CEO Rizky told Pertamuda participants that “daring to dream” was one of the values that young people can possess.
“Today's Pertamuda event is to dare to dream, which I believe is one of the values I strongly possess. Young people have clear dreams and strong determination to achieve those dreams, and if we work seriously on them, we are led toward the direction we aim for,” said Rizky.
