n its efforts to fulfill its commitment to corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSER), Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Upstream Subholding has introduced the use of a solar power plant (SPP) through Pertamina EP Rantau Field for the Creative House Program in Tanjung Karang Village, Karang Baru District, Aceh Province. Pertamina aims to accelerate the use of renewable energy, which benefits all levels of society as part of the Village Energy Independence (DEB) program.

Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zone 1 Head of Comrel and CID Djulianto Tasmat stated that Pertamina is empowering around 20 underprivileged disabled individuals in Tanjung Karang Village, Aceh Tamiang regency, which is the area with the second-largest disabled population in Aceh Province.

"Through this program, Pertamina hopes to increase access to clean energy sources, especially for people with disabilities in Tanjung Karang Village and for the general public," Djulianto said.

With a peak power rating of 4.91 Watt Peak (Wp) which generates 6,320 Watt hours (Wh) of power capacity per year, the SPP not only reduces emissions by up to 6,383 kilograms of CO2 per year, but it also saves electricity costs by up to Rp 9 million (US$587) per year. This plant is an important step toward accelerating the transition to renewables by optimizing local energy resources.

The DEB program was implemented in 2019 and is currently present in 52 villages across Indonesia. The benefits it provides includes generating 143,250 Wp of solar energy, 605,000 cubic meters per year of methane and biogas energy, 16,500 Wp of hybrid solar and wind energy, 8,000 Watts of micro-hydro energy and 6,500 liters of biodiesel per year, as well as reducing emissions by 565,896 tons of CO2 per year.

This program also has a nationwide economic impact on 3,061 households, with a total multiplier effect of Rp1.8 billion per year in benefits.

Furthermore, Pertamina's DEB program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 on clean and affordable energy, SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth and SDG 13 on climate action. Additionally, Pertamina supports the government's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2060 through the program.
