IEE Series 2023 opens at JIExpo with over 2,100 exhibiting companies

T

he Indonesia Energy and Engineering Series 2023 (IEE Series 2023), the largest gathering of its type in Southeast Asia, officially opened on Wednesday with more than 2,100 local and overseas companies taking part in the exhibition.

The IEE Series 2023, organized by Pamerindo, is taking place at JIExpo in Kemayoran, Jakarta. The event will run through Sept. 16.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Maj. Gen. Pol. (ret) Sidarto Danusubroto of the Presidential Advisory Council said the IEE Series, featuring companies from 36 countries, was a remarkable exhibition as it included mining, oil and gas, electricity and power, construction and concrete and building technology, four important and substantial sectors in Indonesia, which should be well maintained at the exhibition given their significance for Indonesia’s economic development.

China’s Sany Heavy Industry, South Korean construction company Develon, Austrian cam switch producer Kraus & Naimer, Germany’s Helukabel, Indonesian state electricity company PLN and excavator producer UltrraTrex, to name but a few, are among the companies taking part in the event.

According to Sidarta, the increase in Indonesia’s GDP above 5 percent, more than China and the United States, “should be maintained and even continually increased, because the increase will be balanced by a stable and affordable energy supply that is also affordable for Indonesian people,” he said.

“We also hope that Indonesia will no longer export of raw materials but also increase the availability of commodities domestically. We appreciate Pamerindo for organizing this incredible event, which can serve as a platform for all stakeholders that will contribute to Indonesia becoming a main player in the global economy,” he said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Dadang Rukmana, expert staff member for economics and investment at the Public Works and Housing Ministry; Ahmad Syakhroza, expert staff member for natural resources economics at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry; Xiang Wen Bo, chairman of SANY Heavy Industry Indonesia as platinum sponsor; Ben Wong, country general manager of PT Pamerindo Indonesia; and Lia Indriasari, portfolio director for energy, engineering and transportation at Pamerindo Indonesia.

According to Sidarto, during President Jokowi’s administration, the government has been focusing on the highly needed development of infrastructure to improve people’s prosperity, such as toll roads, seaports and airports.

“All the infrastructure development projects with high value cannot be realized without the involvement of the government and the people and good collaboration between the investors and domestic and international developers,” he said.

The infrastructure development projects could lead to logistics cost efficiency, increased volumes and domestic products’ competitive edge on the global market.

The presence of domestic and international industry players could support Indonesia’s big infrastructure development programs for all, he said.

As President Jokowi said in his concluding remarks at the ASEAN Summit 2023, Indonesia is viewed as a strategic and pivotal partner for global countries, especially ASEAN, in which the President encouraged collaborations among ASEAN countries to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs), among others.

He said green and sustainable economies would be key to the future of ASEAN.

“In 2025, ASEAN [should] produce 25 percent of renewable energy and 20 percent of power energy,” he said.

“ASEAN is also committed to developing smart and sustainable cities,” he said.

Sidarto also emphasized the importance of being independent in terms of energy in Indonesia, given the big energy source potential the country had.

He expressed hope that the event would help Indonesia on its journey of transforming the mining sector.

“The mining sector in Indonesia always has a vital place in development that needs continuous support. The government encourages an increase in the number of smelters and an increase in the value of product exports and collaborations with advanced economies,” he said.

Lia Indriasari, portfolio director for energy, engineering and transportation from PT Pamerindo Indonesia, which is organizing the event, pointed out that the IEE Series 2023, Southeast Asia’s biggest energy and engineering exhibition, occupied 77,000 square meters and had thousands of products on display at the ongoing event.

Apart from the aforementioned sectors, this year’s IEES 2023 also displays water and waste management technology, as well as casting, foundry and metallurgy technology.

“These sectors are the biggest contributors to Indonesia’s economy. Their presence in the similar exhibition can ignite collaborations among various different sectors, which can lead to collaboratively advancing the economy and industry in Indonesia,” she said.

“In an industry that moves fast, we should not forget the importance of innovation and collaboration to achieve industrial sustainability. In the next four days, we are providing a platform and an opportunity for sharing ideas, discussion and exploring new products and technology that can help a more competitive, sustained industry. And what is special is that 25 percent of the participating exhibitors will launch new products in a special way at the ongoing exhibition,” said Lia.

At the occasion, Pamerindo collaborated with Messe Düsseldorf Asia to jointly present GIFA Indonesia & METEC Indonesia, which focused on foundry, metal processing and metallurgy.

“Through this exhibition, we hope that we can provide solution issues pertaining to energy from the upstream to the downstream,” she said.

Quoting what President Jokowi said about the importance of downstream industry, she said downstream industry development did not only have a positive impact on economic growth but also provided a number of job opportunities.

This year’s IEES 2023 carries the theme, “Toward Industrial Sustainability” because “as the organizer of the exhibition, we are obliged to support sustainability in various areas. Sustainability is not only confined to having a positive impact on the environment, but sustainability also gives positive contributions to the community.”

Lia also emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration to achieve sustainability.

“In the next four days, we provide a platform and an opportunity to discuss and share knowledge about matters and new technology and products,” she said.

Ahmad Syakhroza, expert staff member for natural resources economics at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, expressed his appreciation to Pamerindo for organizing the event.

Through the event, industrial energy actors were given a platform to make contributions to embody sustainability in the energy sector, he said.

He said Indonesia had paid heed to new and renewable energy to create clean energy toward net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.

“This event can serve as a symbol of togetherness, the government and energy industry actors walking hand in hand,” he said.

He said Indonesia was one of the world’s commodity producers, including nickel, tin, coal and bauxite, and employed foundries, metal processing and metallurgy.

Meanwhile, Dadang said development involved complex activities consisting of a series of phases from the upstream to downstream and involved supply chain systems.

“In this case, the preparedness of the construction supply chain is crucial to ensure the sustainability of development implementation. That’s why we have to ensure the preparedness of all aspects of the ecosystem. This exhibition is expected to expand our horizons on quality product innovation development and create a competitive edge with the newest technology in the construction and energy areas,” he said.

In line with that, Lia said that through the collaboration with GIFA METEC, “we hope that the IEE Series 2023, can present a complete solution from the mainstream to the downstream in all energy and engineering sectors.”

Apart from exhibition, the IEE Series 2023 also features 18 hybrid seminars, divided into three stages, with more than 70 speakers competent in their respective areas. The seminars can be watched online.

Several of the seminars are directly held by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Public Works and Housing Ministry, National Research Agency (BRIN), Indonesia Smart Grid Initiatives and PLN Nusantara Power.

The seminars are supported by 13 official associations in Indonesia. Apart from the seminars, in the area of the IEE Series 2023, there are three podcast venues for which more than 42 discussion sessions have been confirmed.
