Pertamina Patra Niaga guarantees supply ahead of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia

T

he world-class motorcycle Grand Prix of Indonesia will return for the second time to Mandalika, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, from Oct. 13 to 15. The event, held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, has been eagerly awaited by fans and riders alike, as Mandalika is considered one of the most beautiful circuits in the world.

Pertamina's support for the event’s success extends beyond the Grand Prix itself to the broader energy supply network. Pertamina has ensured that sufficient energy will be supplied for logistics, transportation to Lombok, restaurants, hotels and the daily needs of the local community.

"We [Pertamina Patra Niaga] assure and guarantee that the energy stock and distribution [for the event] are secure. In addition to our regular services, Pertamina Patra Niaga will also have [our] main facilities on standby and provide additional services to ensure an uninterrupted energy supply for both the MotoGP event and the daily needs of the community," Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Riva Siahaan said.

Riva added that the stock of fuels such as gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and aviation turbine or jet fuel will be continuously maintained at safe levels. Additionally, there will be an extension of operational hours for key facilities crucial to the success of MotoGP, such as jet fuel supply at the Lombok International Airport (BIL) and gasoline at Fuel Terminal (FT) Ampenan.

In anticipation of the projected increase in jet fuel demand, which is expected to rise by 190 percent compared to normal daily consumption, the BIL Aircraft Refueling Depot (DPPU) will operate non-stop from Oct. 5 to Oct. 17 to meet the jet fuel needs of logistics and charter flights as well as increased commercial flights to and from Lombok during the Grand Prix.

It is estimated that there will be a 43 percent increase in gasoline consumption. Therefore, the FT Ampenan, which is the backbone of gasoline supply in Lombok, will have its operating hours extended to start from 2:00 a.m. local time, earlier than the previous starting time of 6:00 a.m., and have additional operating hours on Sundays.

"Our efforts were made well in advance, as preparations for the MotoGP in Mandalika began a few days ago when logistics transport aircraft started to arrive to Lombok, and with logistics operational vehicles requiring a consistent jet fuel and gasoline supply. These efforts will continue until the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is completed," he added.

In addition to ensuring stock and preparing facilities, Riva also said that Pertamina Patra Niaga has prepared 24-hour gas stations on the main routes to the event, one Pertamax Turbo Special Module unit for operational fuel consumption in the race that includes use by safety cars, as well as LPG agents and depots that will operate on holidays to meet the needs of the public.

"In addition to ensuring stock and secure distribution at the upstream level, Pertamina Patra Niaga also assures that our distribution network is ready to serve the surge in energy needs. As the date of the main event approaches, there will be a rise in the gasoline needs of visiting spectators and locals, as well as an increase in LPG needs for restaurants and hotels. We will be ready to ensure that these needs are met effectively," Riva concluded.

Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communications Fadjar Djoko Santoso added that the Pertamina Group will fully support the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, which is one of the major international sporting events. "This event also showcases synergy among various state-owned enterprises, so it will not only be a successful event but also have a positive impact on the national economy, the regional economy and the general public," Fadjar said.

As a leading company in the energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting Indonesia’s goal of net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060 by continually promoting programs that directly impact the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All these efforts are in line with the implementation of environmental, social and Governance (ESG) principles across all of Pertamina's business lines and operations.
