ertamina's commitment, together with the community, has received appreciation from the Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya for advancing villages in various regions of Indonesia. Ten Pertamina business entities were named as supporters of the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) 2023 in the institutional category.

In this event, Pertamina Commercial and Trading Subholding, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, received six awards, namely for Aircraft Refueling Depot (DPPU) Sultan Thaha (Jambi), DPPU Adi Sumarno (Solo), DPPU Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang), Fuel Terminal Maos (Cilacap), Integrated Terminal Panjang (Lampung) and Integrated Terminal Palembang.

Furthermore, Pertamina Refining and Petrochemical Subholding, PT Kilang Pertamina International (KPI), also obtained two awards for its Refinery Units V Balikpapan and III Plaju. Awards were also received by PT Pertamina EP Donggi Matindok Field and PT Perta Samtan Gas.

Environment and Forestry Minister Siti expressed her appreciation for the parties that had worked to realize the ProKlim goals in the region.

"This award is given to appreciate the dedication of the ProKlim participants and is recognition of all actors in the field and business practitioners who consistently provide good guidance, actively participate and support the implementation of ProKlim," said Siti.

PT Pertamina Corporate Communication vice president Fadjar Djoko Santoso emphasized how Pertamina was actively supporting the ministry's efforts to achieve ProKlim village targets through its adopted villages, which have launched supporting programs and empower residents of villages, hamlets and communies to become agents of change in Indonesia's ProKlim Village.

"The current role of Pertamina is not only limited to the provision of energy but also includes a commitment to environmental preservation for creating a better future. Together, it invites the community to participate in managing climate change sustainably, including supporting the government's target to achieve net-zero emissions (NZEs) by 2060," said Fadjar.

Furthermore, Fadjar explained the entities within Pertamina had received awards for consistently involving the community in ProKlim actions and environmental mitigation for a better environment. One example, is the Integrated Terminal Palembang development in Semambu Village Island, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, where they empower the community through its Self-Reliant Energy Village program to promote environmentally friendly agriculture by harnessing solar-powered renewable energy.

"The utilization of solar panels, business management and digital marketing to the community is conducted in a structured manner. Equipped with solar panels with a capacity of 6.54 kWp [kilowatt peak] and a 10 kWh [kilowatt hour] lithium battery energy storage technology, this program is capable of generating 8,442 kWh of energy per year. This brings the potential for electricity cost savings of around Rp 13 million per year. In addition, the implementation of solar energy does not only provides economic benefits but also supports more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture by reducing carbon emissions by 8,502 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per year," said Fadjar.

The positive impact of this program is strongly felt. More than 140 farmers have experienced direct benefits from the integrated farming practices supported by the Village Energy Independence (DEB) program. The establishment of the Home Industry Group, consisting of 10 members, is also noticeable, with a 30 percent increase in farmers' income, reaching Rp 1.5 million per month per farmer, and Rp 1 million per month per group.

ProKlim is part of Indonesia's commitment and contribution in global climate change control efforts as a non-party stakeholder, in accordance with the outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference Conference (COP26), as outlined in the Glasgow Climate Pact.

The main activities of ProKlim are divided into two dimensions: adaptation and mitigation. In the adaptation dimension, the activities conducted include drought control, flood and landslide management, improving food security, addressing or anticipating sea level rise, coastal flooding, intrusion of seawater, coastal erosion due to wind, high waves and climate-related disease control.

Meanwhile, in the mitigation aspect, ProKlim activities encompass waste management, solid and liquid waste, the use of renewable energy and energy conservation, low GHG emission agriculture practices, increased vegetation cover and forest and land fire prevention and management.

The ongoing efforts of Pertamina Group to support the implementation of ProKlim are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 13, which aims to take swift action to combat climate change and its impacts, while also supporting the implementation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles by engaging communities in the sustainable management of climate change.
