ducation has long been believed to be the key to unlock one’s potential. However, for some there  have been significant barriers to pursuing higher educationto. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the level of upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary attainment among 25-year-olds and above in Indonesia is one of the lowest among OECD and partner countries.

Gojek, Indonesia’s biggest on-demand service business unit, has continuously demonstrated their consistency in improving the standard of living of their driver partners’ families through education. Gojek is the first company in the industry to provide full educational scholarships for the families of its driver partners.

The subsidiary of GoTo group announced the graduation of the offspring of the first batch of Gojek Scholarship recipient driver partners, which was also witnessed by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi.

Speaking to the new batch of graduates, Minister Budi in an emotional speech, shared his personal experience working in government for several years, in the hopes that he can inspire the scholarship recipient alumni who are ready to begin their careers. He added that improving the education of the younger generation is in line with the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045, a long-term commitment to produce quality and high-achieving human resources in industry.

"We believe education is the main key that can realize the achievement of the Government's targets," he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to Gojek for consistently creating Self-Help Programs that have a social impact, including access to education through the Gojek Partners Children's Scholarship Program.

"I congratulate you on graduating from the first batch of this program, I hope that the Sons and Daughters of Gojek Partners can continue to be successful and become an inspiration for Indonesia's young generation," said the Minister of Transportation.

Since its inception in 2020, the scholarship program has been able to help 62 recipients to pursue a higher education at leading state polytechnics throughout Indonesia, after going through a strict selection process from thousands of applicants.

"This year, we are proud to welcome the first batch of Gojek scholarship recipients who graduated from higher education. What is also encouraging is that they graduated on time with excellent academic achievements. In fact, most of them have found jobs according to their interests and majors," revealed Catherina Hindra Sutjahyo, GoTo Group On-Demand Service Director and President.

Catherine added, "As a concrete manifestation of Gojek Swadaya's ongoing commitment, we do not stop at providing scholarships for formal education, but also provide non-academic skills training (soft skills) to prepare them to face the competitive world of work."

In order to ensure that each graduate is able to secure a job after graduation, the company is also offering training on how to write a proper CV, necessary preparation for job interviews, as well as basic leadership values to be able to flourish in a workplace environment. This self-development program is delivered voluntarily by employees of Gojek who are competent in their fields, as a form of support between members of the company’s ecosystem.

Dzikru Rahman, known to his peers are Dzikru, is the son of a Gojek driver in Jakarta. With hard work, a determination to study Mechanical Engineering major, and an aspiration toto build a name for himself in the automotive sector, he applied for the scholarship.

To his surprise, he was able to be named a recipient in 2020 after a rigorous process. He went on to graduate cum laude from the Jakarta State Polytechnic majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.51.

“I am very grateful for the presence of the Gojek Scholarship program which gives me the opportunity to study for free until I graduate in the major I dream of. I also don't forget the support and prayers from my parents who succeeded in getting me to this point. After this, I hope to be able to work soon and repay all the sacrifices of my parents." said Dzikru.

Moreover, other programs have been launched by the company to help driver partners and their families to succeed. Launched in 2016, more than 240 thousand Gojek driver partners and their families have access to a better life through savings and insurance programs including health insurance (BPJS), affordable Home Ownership Credit (KPR), and partner child scholarships.

The various welfare programs provided in the Gojek ecosystem make 90 percent of partners confident that they will be able to support their families properly after partnering with Gojek. More than 80 percent of partners believe that a partnership with the application will help them send their children to college.

Gojek also recently welcomed 17 recipients of the 2023 Gojek Scholarship, who had passed the selection which started last April and drew application from thousands of applicants, all of whom are determined to emulate Dzikru’s success in their respective fields.

"In its fourth year, the Gojek Scholarship continues to receive positive responses from driver partners, thus motivating us to continue to expand the benefits of this program in the future and create sustainable prosperity in our ecosystem," concluded Catherine.

Catherine also explains that the series of policies and initiatives for Gojek driver's families are parts of GoTo Group's Zero Barriers commitment, where Gojek as part of GoTo Group is committed to eliminating all obstacles to access, growth and opportunities for all parties within the ecosystem.
