Argentinian steakhouse Sudestada hosts an outdoor party full of Argentinian delicacies to welcome the new year.

Argentinian steakhouse Sudestada invited closest friends and partners to an outdoor party on Thursday evening at the restaurant’s front garden.

Titled Celebra Con Los Campeones (Celebrate with the Champions), the restaurant, hailing from Argentina but located in Menteng, Central Jakarta, hoped to welcome the new year with its partners and long-time customers as a thankful gesture.

“These three years were really hard for us,” Sudestada’s owner and chef Victor Taborda said as he opened the event. “So, it is right to make a party to thank all our customers.”

Like many, Sudestada experienced rough times during the pandemic but the now-famed steakhouse pulled through. Victor revealed that they will open a new branch soon near Senayan City mall in Central Jakarta.

The party was held in the restaurant’s outdoor dining area, with its landmark Volkswagen Kombi car transformed into a grilling area. Established in 2019, Chef Victor and his wife initially started Sudestada in a Volkswagen as a street food truck, hence the revamped vehicle for the event.

The food truck offered the Latin-Argentinian delicacies Sudestada is known for, from empanadas with ham, cheese or spinach stuffing to taco sandwiches with the iconic Argentinian grilled rose meat matambre. The guests were then treated to a long buffet of steaks freshly grilled outside, consisting of rib-eye, bife de chorizo and other meats that highlight Sudestada’s identity.

As the evening drew to a close, the restaurant provided sour and sweet desserts in cups. The Argentinian grill, bar and cafe has also gotten famous for its desserts, spearheaded by Chef Victor’s wife, Claudia Urbaneja. The guests enjoyed a selection of sweets from lemon-tinged sorbets to chocolate-filled churros.
