Many do not realize that tuberculosis (TB) still lurks around us, and we still have a long way to go to eradicate the disease. 

Faradibha Dzalika Fatah, medical student at Yarsi University Jakarta, became worried as she had been feeling weak and feverish for more than two weeks. 

“As a medical student, I have a tight schedule, so the condition bothered me,” Faradibha said during an interview at the United States cultural center, @america, in Pacific Place, South Jakarta, on March 29. “So, I immediately checked myself into the hospital.” 

After a thorough examination at the hospital, Faradibha was diagnosed with TB. 

“I was stunned,” she said. “I’ve studied tuberculosis in class. It’s an old disease. I didn’t realize that I could still get it.”  

Old but deadly

Faradibha was right. TB is indeed one of the oldest diseases in the history of humankind.
