The Indonesian fashion landscape has been moving toward sharia-conforming clothing, locally known as syar'i clothing, which can range from a simple selendang (thin scarf) to more delicate and intricate designs that are still easy to wear.

odest fashion, inspired by Islamic principles, has transcended its origins to become a major global phenomenon. Despite the stringent guidelines, its styles thrive on creativity, breathing life into an array of decorous, yet attractive outfits that defy monotony.

According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) 2023, total spending by Muslim consumers on fashion items amounted to US$318 million in 2022, representing an increase of 8.4 percent compared to the previous year.

This expenditure is predicted to rise by 6.1 percent to US$428 million in 2027.

The same report also ranks Indonesia as the world’s third leading country in the global modest fashion ecosystem, after Turkey and Malaysia.
