he 8th Sarasehan Untuk Negeri (SERUNI) raised the theme “Diving Deep into Indonesia’s Election: The Disorientation in the Essence of Democracy” to identify the loss of democracy in Indonesia’s election system this year.

SERUNI is an annual forum for discussion, education and expression regarding socio-political issues in Indonesia, initiated by the Department of Study and Strategic Action BEM FEB UI.

This year’s Grand Seminar is held on Saturday (19/11/2022) at the University of Indonesia. It will be attended by keynote speakers Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno and Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo. The latter of the three keynote speakers has been hinting at running for the presidency that will soon be vacant, as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to end his tenure after finishing his second term.

Moreover, the first session will have a panel consisting of Hendrajit, Effendi Gazali and M. Qodari. Meanwhile, the speakers for the second session will be Haris Azhar, Adian Napitupulu, Arie Putra, Fahri Hamzah and Budiman Sudjatmiko.

In line with the theme, the event is aimed to discuss and find a path for Indonesia to lead an ideal democracy, as well as obstacles that hinder the democratic system brought on by contemporary socio-political issues. The speakers come from various backgrounds and expertise to foster collaboration.

Accompanying the wave of innovation and collaboration from the youth, SERUNI offers a series of events held before the Grand Seminar. SERUNI holds two series of Seruni Talks, which is a mini open discussion regarding phenomena in Indonesia’s democratic system.

SERUNI also holds Diskusi Anak Negeri, a forum discussing abstinence in the elections that highlights the different sides of pros and cons. All of the events by SERUNI can be viewed online through the official YouTube channel of SERUNI BEM FEB UI.
