aranatha Christian University is introducing flagship programs to celebrate its 59th anniversary. This year's anniversary celebration will be held on Sept. 11, with the theme “Maranatha Soars: Reaching New Horizons.” The series of events will take place in the Auditorium Prof. Dr. P. A. Surjadi, M.A. at the Maranatha Christian University campus, Bandung.

One of the programs currently being promoted is recognition of prior learning (RPL). The RPL program recognizes an individual's previous learning experiences. This recognition of equivalency of learning achievements can be used as a basis to continue formal education at Maranatha Christian University.

Recognition of work experience

Iwan Santosa, S.T., M.Kom., head of media, communications and public relations at Maranatha Christian University, stated that the RPL program provides wider access to the community to pursue higher education at Maranatha. "Not only does it broaden access to education, but the RPL program is also clearly beneficial as it can sorten the duration of study, allowing them to graduate faster," he said.

He explained in more detail that the study period can be shortened through a mechanism of recognizing previous learning achievements, which are then converted into course credits. Recognition can also be given for work experience relevant to the study program to be pursued.

“Work experience can also be recognized and converted into course credits,” Iwan said. “For example, someone who has professional experience in civil engineering. After passing the assessment, it is very possible that their work experience can be converted, for example, into 15 courses. So, they only need to complete about 100 more credits, allowing them to graduate in just three years,” he added.

According to the official website maranatha.edu/rpl, Maranatha's RPL program is open to high school/vocational high school graduates and their equivalents, diploma graduates and those who have previously attended but not completed higher education. Prospective participants who want their work experience recognized need to have documentation or a portfolio as evidence during the assessment. Maranatha's RPL program can also be utilized by those who want to continue their studies from a diploma level (D-III) to a bachelor's degree (S-1).

The rector of Maranatha Christian University, Prof. Ir. Sri Widiyantoro, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, mentioned that 2024 marks the phase of "soaring high" for Maranatha. There have been many achievements and changes at Maranatha Christian University over the past few years. The biggest change is the opening of new faculties, namely the Faculty of Smart Technology and Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities and Creative Industries and the Faculty of Digital Business and Law.

“This 59th anniversary is the first time Maranatha has celebrated its anniversary with the new faculty structure. Currently, there are six faculties, three of which are newly established,” said Iwan. The three new faculties are a merger of several previous faculties, aimed at strengthening national and international standing, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships with industry.

At the beginning of 2024, Maranatha Christian University achieved the status of "Excellent Accreditation" from BAN-PT. Maranatha is also ranked among the top-10 best universities in Indonesia according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024. Globally, Maranatha is also enhancing its internationalization with the attainment of international accreditation. Currently, eight study programs have been internationally accredited by ASIIN and AQAS. This international accreditation will continue to be expanded to other study programs.
