36-year-old Irish national has been arrested by the Denpasar Police in Bali for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing the death of a woman in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday morning.

Police chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said the suspect was arrested in Canggu in Badung regency.

Bambang said that the incident occurred at around 1.45 a.m. at the Jl. Sunset and Jl. Kunti intersection in Seminyak. A damaged rented white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV was later found on Sanur Beach.

The crash involved three vehicles, the SUV, a Toyota Yaris hatchback and a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider, 50-year-old Ni Wayan Madiani, died at the scene of the crash.

Bambang said the police were questioning the suspect and were yet to decide on criminal charges against him. (dre)
