A fine policy? Drivers question efficacy of emissions testing

New policies had included random testing of vehicles since Sept. 1, which resulted in owners of vehicles with unhealthy levels of exhaust emissions being fined.
The move, however, did not sit right with many drivers in Jakarta and its satellite cities.
“I don’t think the emissions testing effectively reduces pollution, and the police checks are also just a bother,” animation studio producer Yonathan Ary Gote from South Tangerang, Banten, lamented to The Jakarta Post on Sept 13.
