The SOEs minister now has another nongovernmental role under his belt, after NU chair Gus Yahya appointed him to head the organization's Human Resource Research and Development Institute (Lakpesdam) over the weekend.
ahdlatul Ulama central executive board (PBNU) chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, better known as Gus Yahya, has appointed State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir as executive chair of the Muslim organization’s Human Resource Research and Development Institute (Lakpesdam).
Yahya announced Erick’s appointment on Friday evening while opening a NU national congress at Asrama Haji Pondok Gede in East Jakarta.
Erick replaces the institute’s previous head Ulil Abshar Abdalla and secretary Hasanuddin Ali, both of whose terms were to last until 2027, according to the NU Lakpesdam website.
“I have signed the new decree and the position of Lakpesdam head has been replaced by Erick Thohir,” Yahya said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia on Sunday.
He also expressed his hope that the change in the Lakpesdam leadership would bring new energy and enhance the organization’s operations.
“I wish to build a technocracy in NU’s organizational operations, and Erick is an experienced person with an impressive performance [and] track record in that field,” Yahya said.
The NU chairman likened his vision for Lakpesdam with Erick at its helm to having the organization’s own National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), adding that Erick was willing to realize this vision.
