View all search resultsIn the aftermath of his death, screenshots of group chats surfaced online showing students at the university making cruel and dehumanizing remarks about Timothy’s passing, with one comparing his body to a gorilla and joking about the difficulty of moving it, while another wrote, “I’m trying so hard not to laugh.”
dayana University in Denpasar, Bali has launched an internal investigation into the suspected suicide of Timothy Anugrah Saputra, a 22-year-old sociology student, amid allegations of bullying by his peers.
Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said the investigation team was formed to uncover the truth behind Timothy's death and to provide support for his family and other concerned parties.
“The Higher Education, Science and Technology Ministry will continue to monitor this case closely to ensure it is handled transparently and fairly,” Brian said on Sunday, as quoted by Antaranews.
He added that the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for educational institutions to be more attentive to students’ well-being and to foster a more compassionate and inclusive academic environment.
“Campuses must be safe spaces, free from all forms of violence and bullying,” he said.

Timothy died after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of the Social and Political Sciences Faculty building at Udayana University on Oct. 15.
