he special committee on spatial planning, assets and permits of the Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) has urged the Klungkung Prosecutor’s Office to investigate persons involved in the controversial glass lift on Kelingking Beach.
Special committee on spatial planning, assets and permits chairman I Made Supartha said the request was made to correct public misperception that the provincial administration had issued a license to build the lift at the Kelingking Beach cliff on Nusa Penida Island in Klungkung regency, even though the glass-lift project is illegal.
The project, owned by PT Bina Nusa Property, was categorized as a foreign investment, the permit was issued by the central government instead of by the Bali provincial administration.
The permit for the project, developed by PT Indonesia Kaishi Tourism Property Investment Development Group, had been to only build ticket booths on top of the cliff, and it was important to determine which official approved the permit, said the chairman.
“Given these conditions, we urged law enforcers to fully investigate who is responsible,” Supartha said in Denpasar on Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.
“We also hope the investor reveals which official backed the decision to illegally build the glass lift.” Supartha said.
The senior politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle said he regretted that the public misperception that the Bali provincial administration was involved. Bali Governor Wayan Koster and the special committee on spatial planning, assets and permits were in fact the ones who pushed for the project to be halted and dismantled. Supartha therefore asked the public to work with the Bali Provincial Legislative Council to press the Klungkung Prosecutor’s Office to disclose the illegal lift construction case.
