ukmawati Soekarnoputri, one of former president Sukarno's daughters, met with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace on Monday to ask for his blessing of her plan to produce a film about her father.

Sukmawati believed that the film production would be successful if given the President’s blessing. Reportedly, Jokowi expressed his appreciation to the filmmaker and gave the film his full support.

The film plans to tell the story of the nation’s first president from his birth until the moment he passed away. Sukmawati also said that the film would be different from previous films about Sukarno that have been released.

Sukmawati has another major aim. “The film could be submitted to the Academy Awards, if possible,” she said to kompas.com. She intends to work together with filmmakers from China to create the film. (wir/asw)
