Photo-sharing app Instagram will soon be adding a new feature to help its users filter comments.
Account owners will be able to moderate comments in the comments section for each of their uploads. The moderation activities include approving and displaying comments, disapproving and rejecting comments, deleting and not allowing anyone to comment.
Nicky Jackson Colaco, Instagram’s head of public policy told The Washington Post, Monday, “Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly safe place for self expression. We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience. As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community.”

Users who are given the opportunity to try and test the new feature are able to give input so that the comment filter feature can be improved. The feature will be made public in the coming months.
The filter feature made its way to Instagram’s to-do-list to counter hate comments and slander via Instagram accounts. The existence of the feature is envisioned to make account owners more comfortable and free to share their photos via Instagram. (asw)
