After manufacturing sneakers made of recycled ocean plastic, Adidas has unveiled the latest product in its Futurecraft series.
The Futurecraft Biofabric sneakers are made of a fiber the company calls "biosteel", which it claims to be a replication of natural silk. Adidas said it is the first shoe made with the stuff.
Developed by German biotech company AMSilk, the biosteel fiber is claimed to be completely biodegradable when it is no longer being used. Not only that, it also makes the sneakers weigh 15 percent less than shoes made out of other synthetic fibers, according to dailysocial.id. The Futurecraft Biofabrics look like other performance shoes, but they actually have holes for air circulation.

“This concept represents premium innovation,” said an Adidas representative. “By using biosteel fiber in our products, we have achieved an unrivaled level of sustainability.”
Meanwhile, AMSilk CEO Jens Klein said, “The sport shoes that have been developed together with Adidas are the first products worldwide with a high-performance material made of nature-identical silk biopolymers.”
Adidas has also stopped using plastic bags in its retail stores. (wir/kes)
