As other social media platforms hop on the Snapchat bandwagon, it looks as if Snapchat is trying to follow Netflix’s lead.
The social media platform announced it will be partnering with television companies to create original shows that will be hosted on the Snapchat platform.
Companies include NBCUniversal, ESPN, Turner, Discovery, Vice Media, and ABC, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Once on Snapchat, the original series will be accessible via the Snapchat Stories section of the app, and will consist of 3 to 5 minute episodes.

There is some speculation that while the shows hosted on the app will be like everything else on Snapchat and disappear after a set amount of time, that timeframe may be extended to 48 hours, as compared to the usual 24 hours.
There has been no word on exactly what will be included, although there are reported talks of original spin-offs of already established shows like House Hunters and Chopped.
Snap Inc.’s deal with television companies has outlined the fact they specifically want scripted and completely original content, according to The Next Web. (sul/kes)
