his month the alternative cinema café Kineforum, which is located inside the Taman Ismail Marzuki cultural center in Central Jakarta, will present 15 films that seek to rethink the living spaces that human beings inhabit in a program running from July 13 to 26.

As part of a program themed ‘Tarung Halaman’ (A Battle for Place), the cinema café will divide the film screenings of classic and contemporary Indonesian films as well as fiction and documentary international films, into three categories.

The first category is Pendekar Urban (Urban Warriors) highlighting the complexity and chaos that urbanites have to face in city landscapes. The category features Bikes vs Cars, which seeks to examine how motor vehicles have marginalized human beings in urban settings. Another is the classic 1990 film Taksi (Taxi) directed by Arifin C. Noer.

The next category Padang Tremor (Padang’s Tremor) focuses on the consequences of both natural and man-made disasters. Films include Atambua 39o Celcius, which tells the story of the aftermath of Timor Leste’s separation from Indonesia, as well as Tabula Rasa, about the aftermath of an earthquake in Padang, West Sumatra.

The final category Area Anomali (Anomalous Zone) focuses on the marginalization of differently abled individuals and women, with films such as a documentary called In the land of the deaf as well as a film called Berbagi Suami (Husbands for Share) about polygamy.
