P

resident Jokowi revealed to the National Flag Hoisting Team (Paskibraka) that he almost made a mistake in the flag-lowering ceremony Thursday evening, Aug. 17 at the presidential palace, due to his absence in the rehearsals.

“I missed the rehearsals, so I just tried to remember. I memorized the morning procession, but forgot the evening procession,” the president said after delivering his speech, Friday Aug. 18.

The president continued to say the part he forgot about the flag-lowering ceremony is the steps after the flag has been lowered. He did not remember how to accept the flag offered by tray holder, Ruth Celine Eglesya Purba and was not sure whether he should take the tray or only the flag, as reported by Tempo.co.

“My hands were already on the tray. I asked Ruth, ‘Should I take the tray or only the flag?’ Ruth whispered back to me, ‘Only the flag, Mr. President.’ So I took the flag,” Jokowi said with a laugh.

The president said he might be embarrassed had anyone heard Ruth’s whisper, although he’s not bothered if anyone caught him forgetting the steps in the flag-lowering procession. However, he reminded the team to learn from his mistake.

“That’s the importance of rehearsals after a month of training. I saw that everything went well, praise God,” he concluded. (asw)
