The Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane brought batik makers from Indonesia to host the batik workshop. The reception from locals was positive, as reported by Antara News Agency.
“The locals are very interested in Indonesian batik. Laos also has a beautiful woven culture, but not everybody can weave because it’s not as easy as making batik,” Wishnu said.
The batik workshop attracted 70 local participants including mall goers, art school students, art galleries and members of the Laos ethnic arts community.
Khamheng Phommasy, a participant from the Laos Institute of Arts said, “Making batik is a very good and fun activity. I loved learning how to use the canting to create the patterns.” Phommasy was also interested in Indonesian batik’s unique patterns, “I love Indonesian batik because I like designing on cotton cloth,” he adds.
