Indonesian fashion students showcase collections at Shanghai Fashion Week 2018

Of the 17 students from the Raffles Design Institute Shanghai that showcased collections at Shanghai Fashion Week, two were handpicked from Indonesia.

A

group of students from the Raffles Design Institute Shanghai showcased their collections at Autumn-Winter Shanghai Fashion Week 2018 on Monday. Carrying the theme "Hyper-Reality", the fashion show took place at 800Show, an old factory house and creative industry park.

Of the 17 students of the fashion institute that contributed to the collections, two hail from Indonesia. They are Velika Hillary and Ella Natali.

Ella, with her collection Hybridity, was inspired by her self-identity, which blended with different races and cultures. Velika's collection, The Silent Cross, was influenced by the book The Missionary Position: Mother Theresa in Theory and Practice.

Derrick Cheah, the college director of Raffles Academy Shanghai, told Antara, “We really appreciate the pieces designed by the two Indonesian students.”

Meanwhile, Stefán Orschel-Read, the acting academic director of Raffles Education Corporation, said Velika’s and Ella’s works had been selected from hundreds of other student submissions.

The Indonesian consul-general to Shanghai, Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, accompanied by the consul of information, social affairs and culture, Radityo Panjaitan, attended the event. (mut)
