hose envious of the seemingly perfect lives of social media influencers and vloggers should perhaps consider living such a life themselves.

Indonesian creator Arief Muhammad, 27, who has been living his dream as a content creator on YouTube since 2013, shared these tips for aspiring vloggers with Antara:

Start now

Arief noticed that aspiring vloggers often put off making a start because they felt intimidated by having to live up to the creativity of established names. To overcome these fears, Arief said beginners should lower their expectations and just do it.

“If your expectations are too high, you will never do anything. Great content makers start small and from the bottom, they start by themselves and make do with what they have. So, just start,” he said.

Follow your passions

Instead of following viral trends, Arief recommended sticking to your hobbies and passions. The content of vlogs will be a lot more engaging if the audience can see that the creator is doing what they love most.

“First, find what you like, then start creating. We look for people who share the same passion. For example, there is currently a growing trend in gaming content. However, I’m personally not into gaming, so I stick to creating travel vlogs,” Arief said.

Don’t force it

Arief avoids following a trend just because it’s a trend. “We don’t have to follow every viral thing,” he remarked, “For instance, for girls, many make beauty content. But rather than forcing yourself to do the same, do something you actually enjoy. Don’t force it."

Build your own identity

The most important part of being a creator is your uniqueness. This could range from your content, your final product, or the way you present the content to your audience.

Arief noted that there were vloggers out there who only developed their scripts, and left the filming and editing to their respective teams. Unfortunately, this may result in a lack of originality and prevent you from finding your own unique identity.
