P

op singer Raisa has been the talk of Twitterverse since Tuesday. Indonesian netizens have been rooting for the pop singer to meet the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

Sutopo has been one of Indonesian Twitter users’ most loved personas for his dedication to his work, informing the public about the earthquakes and tsunami, amid his struggles with stage 4B lung cancer. He idolizes Raisa and has tweeted mentioning the singer’s Twitter handle a few times in the past to get her attention.

Sutopo’s tweet read: “Although I have stage 4B lung cancer, I always try to do the best for the media and the public. For fellow cancer survivors, keep your spirits up. Be patient, keep working and keep praying. Life is not about how long you live but how big of a help we are to others.” At the end of the tweet, he mentioned Raisa’s Twitter handle.

Netizens responded to Sutopo’s tweet by mentioning Raisa, encouraging the singer to meet Sutopo. A Twitter user, Imam Wiratmadja is among those who amplified the hashtag #RaisaMeetSutopo.

Senior music journalist, Adib Hidayat also partook in the #RaisaMeetSutopo merriment, connecting Raisa’s manager to Sutopo.

Adib’s effort was not in vain, as he managed to get Raisa to respond to Sutopo’s tweet. The two are scheduled to meet on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Raisa responded to Sutopo’s tweet, sending words of encouragement for Sutopo.

Raisa’s tweet read: “My Twitter today has #RaisaMeetSutopo all over it. I’ve read all the stories in your tweets, friends, and it made me feel like I’ve known Pak Sutopo for a long time. He’s loved by many. Keep your spirit and keep on inspiring, Pak Sutopo :)” She mentioned Sutopo's handle at the end of the tweet.

Surprisingly, on Wednesday afternoon, when Sutopo was at a press conference, delivering information to media outlets, he was interrupted by a video call from Raisa herself.

After being cheered on by members of the press who surrounded him at the venue, Sutopo took the call.

Raisa's voice could not be heard over the speakerphone, however, Sutopo appeared very happy, saying, "[This moment will be] the most beautiful memory for me". (asw)
