eep forgetting your password or simply annoyed by the requirement to type one? Windows 10 users can rejoice as they will soon be able to log into their account using their fingerprint or face thanks to the operating system's passwordless biometric authentication system dubbed Windows Hello.

Windows Hello, which recently received FIDO2 certification, allows users to access their Windows 10 PC using fingerprint or facial recognition sensors as well as PINs.

As reported by ZDNet, among the services that are compatible with Windows Hello are Office 365, Skype, Cortana, OneDrive, Outlook.com, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Store, MSN, Xbox Live and Bing.

"People dislike passwords since they are required to remember them," said Yogesh Mehta, Microsoft's crypto, identity and authentication team group manager in Azure Core OS.

"Hence, to allow us to remember passwords more easily, we tend to create those that are not that hard to guess," added Mehta, which eventually makes us an easy target for hackers.

The certification is part of an effort by the industry to implement passwordless sign in. Chrome on Android, for instance, has also been certified with FIDO2. (sop/kes)
