he National Movement of 1,000 Digital Startups will hold an event called “Ignite the Nation” at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Aug. 18.
The movement aims to produce high-quality digital-technology startups and targets young people from various backgrounds, such as application programming, design, communications, business and finance.
“Ignite the Nation” is part of a series of events in 10 cities across the country in August and September. The Jakarta event will be the second, and participation is limited to 8,000 people.
According to the movement's Instagram post, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is among those who will be present at the event, along with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, media tycoon Erick Thohir, Bukalapak CEO Achmad Zaky, Traveloka CEO and cofounder Ferry Unardi and Tokopedia CEO William Tanuwijaya.

Registration is open at 1000startupdigital.id until Aug. 14.
Established by the Communications and Information Ministry, the National Movement of 1000 Digital Startups was launched in June 2016 and invited local start-ups to take part in the program that provides six months of training.
According to its website, the movement is fully funded by the government and has seen more than 40,000 participants since 2016. Along with training, it provides offline and online courses, access to mentors in the industry and the government as well as co-working spaces. (wng)
