It has been 10 years since the National Police established Women and Children Protection (PPA) units across the country to handle the rising cases of violence against this most vulnerable group. However, the units have yet to perform as the public expected. When the PPA was set up in 2007, people hoped it would play a leading role in the effort to curb the uptrend in violence against women and children. It was born out of concern about crimes such as rape, domestic violence and human trafficking.
