With less than a week to go before the 2019 general election, candidates are stepping up their efforts to win the peoples’ hearts. Among them is Rieke Diah Pitaloka from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Dian Islamiati Fatwa from the National Mandate Party (PAN).

For Dian, the toughest challenge comes from the new simultaneous election system, which “drowns out” legislative candidates amid the presidential election hype. Meanwhile, Rieke Diah Pitaloka considers the reluctance of some to vote as an uphill battle, as she urges them to use their voting rights on Apr. 17.
