UPANG, E. Nusa Tenggara: Residents along with the Indonesia-Timor Leste Border Police Unit and Belu Regency Police chased 12 armed robbers who stole 77 cows belonging to residents of Dafala village in East Tasifeto district, Balu regency, on Friday.

The incident happened when three residents, Manuel Lala, Stanis Besin and Leonito Asuk were pasturing their cows at a field in Halibendera kampong that directly borders Timor Leste early Monday morning.

At about 10:00 a.m., 12 unknown men, who were assumed to be Timor Leste residents, came to the pasture and threatened the cowherds with firearms.

The 12 then drove all the cows to Meinlot Village, Fatumena sub-district, Suai district in Timor Leste.

Residents tried to stop the thieves but they could only save 17 cows.

Kupang Wirasakti Military Command spokesman Cap. Paulus Mbobadjie said Thursday that the army and police have been investigating the case and searching for the robbers.

"The case now is under police investigation," Paulus said. -- JP
