he Bajra Sandhi Monument in Denpasar, also known as the Bali People's Struggle Monument, has beaten out the city's other tourism objects to attract the most visitors last year.
Some 69,989 people visited the monument in 2008, an average of 200 people per day. Of that number, 33,320 were overseas tourists, while 36,669 were domestic visitors.
The figures make Bajra Shandi the most visited tourism object in Denpasar compared to any other sites.
"Bajra Sandhi has a lot of advantages compared to other tourism objects, such as easy road access," said I Nengah Santra, head of the monument's research section.
"And it's easy for tour buses to find parking spots here."
The monument is surrounded by a park and has a museum featuring dioramas of Bali's history and revolutionary heroes struggling against Dutch colonialism.
Visitors can take a lift to the top of the 15-meter monument for a bird's-eye view of the city.
Tickets cost Rp 10,000 for adults and Rp 5,000 for children. There is a 50 percent discount percent for groups of more than 10 people.
Santra said the monument's management was looking to draw 80,000 visitors this year, and also planned to add more facilities and souvenirs shops in the near future.
