ADUNG: A crime squad from the Badung Police precinct arrested David Joseph Bleszynski, 26, for allegedly stealing money and jewelry belonging to his friend while they holidayed in a villa in North Kuta.

"He was arrested at his apartment in Jakarta last week and we brought him to Badung precinct the following day," Badung detective chief Adj. Comr. I Made Witaya said recently.

He could not say whether Bleszynski had a tie with actress Tamara Bleszynski because none of his family members visited him to provide confirmation.

According to the police report, the suspect went to Bali with the victim, Cherly Riry, 40, for a vacation early this year. They arrived at Maya Loka villa on Jl. Raya Petitenget in Kerobokan on Jan. 7 and spent three nights at villa No.8 Giri Putri.

They moved to villa No. 2 Dewi Sri the next day and booked the place to stay until Jan. 12. A day before they planned to check out, Cherly briefly went out and returned to the villa at 4 p.m. to find her safety box empty and Bleszynski missing.

Bleszynski allegedly abandoned the villa and stole her Rolex watch, three diamond rings, a pair of diamond earrings, a necklace, a locket and Rp 40 million in cash (US$4,000), adding up to a total loss of Rp 350 million.

"The suspect had the combination key to the safety box," Witaya said.

The victim reported the case to the North Kuta subprecinct on Feb. 10. Detective First Insp. Arief Prasetya said he immediately followed the suspect to Jakarta but found he had already left for Medan, North Sumatra. "I contacted other detectives in the nearby police subprecinct and waited for information on his arrival."
