housands of fans of the Disney Channel's High School Musical series have lost their chance to watch basketball star Troy Bolton and math-whiz Gabriella Montez sing and dance live in the city after the producers of the High School Musical: The Ice Tour cancelled all shows scheduled for Jakarta in the wake of last week's bomb attack.
Sentra Enterprises, the local promoter of the shows, has confirmed the cancellation.
"Due to the recent unrest in Jakarta, all performances from 24 July to 31 July of Disney's High School Musical: The Ice Tour, have been cancelled," Feld Entertainment, the show's producer, said in a statement forwarded by the promoter to The Jakarta Post.
"Feld Entertainment, the producers of High School Musical: The Ice Tour, deeply regrets the inconvenience, however we are primarily concerned with the safety and well-being of our guests, performers and staff."
High School Musical is the Disney Channel's most successful movie to date. It has been watched by an estimated 225 million viewers globally since it was released in January 2006. The film's soundtrack was the best-selling album in the United States in 2006.
More than 40 world-class skaters would have performed scenes from the three movies in the series in Feld Entertainment's ice production.
The promoter initially planned to have 15 shows of the production at the Istora Senayan Indoor Stadium in Central Jakarta, which can seat up to 4,000 people.
