our comments on the arrests of the two deputy leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah on charge of abuse of power and bribery.
The police and the AGO do not have a clean record, this is public knowledge and has now only intensified with the controversial arrest of Bibit and Chandra.
Some high officials within the police force and the AGO are extremely nervous and want the KPK to be destroyed.
They are trying to do their utmost to protect their lavish lifestyles. The police have no right to arrest Bibit and Chandra. Freedom of expression and opinion is part of democracy.
Indonesia is not a police state. This is a golden opportunity for SBY to clean up the police force and AGO simultaneously and have those involved in this mess fired from their posts.
Bibit and Chandra should immediately be released and reinstated at KPK. SBY should not underestimate the public outcry. The public have re-elected SBY because they trust him. He should now prove to the people that he is indeed the right leader for Indonesia. Gus Dur, respected lawyers like Adnan Buyung Nasution and Todung Mulya Lubis and many more respected national figures are all supporting Bibit and Chandra.
The public is not siding with the police nor the AGO and these two institutions should wake up and clean up their act.
The public have no other reliable and trusted institution at the moment that they can turn to and depend on in this explosive situation and now only depend on the press as the pen is mightier than the sword.

SBY will make a show of doing something, for political reasons, but in reality the status quo will remain. Sadly, the Western companies that will do business in Indonesia are probably as corrupt as the people they do business with.
But that's Indonesia, take it or leave it, and I still love the place. Corruption is recognized as the Indonesian way, or maybe it's just Indonesians are more open about it, and just get caught out more often.

In his explanation, the National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri declined to name the charges against the KPK deputies, saying only they had been arrested "because they have complicated the case".
And we, Indonesian people, are supposed to believe that? Are we really so stupid and gullible in the eyes of the police? That statement, and many more like it, is an insult to our intelligence.
Those among us who still have possession of our sanity and know our democratic rights may rightfully ask: "Who complicated the case by issuing very vague statements and behaving in a way sure to raise suspicion?" And the answer will be there for all to see. Bravo, Nahdlatul Ulama and Indonesia Corruption Watch. Go on; continue to defend the gecko in its fight against that arrogant and bullying crocodile.
