JAKARTA: The Jakarta High Court on Monday handed down a heavier prison sentence to former Bank Century owner Robert Tantular
AKARTA: The Jakarta High Court on Monday handed down a heavier prison sentence to former Bank Century owner Robert Tantular.
"Considering the fact the defendant controlled Bank Century's operations, issued US$178 million worth of fake letters of credit, disbursed Rp 362 million in bad credit and embezzled $18 million from customer deposits, we believe a heavier sentence of five and a half years needs to be imposed, 1.5 years longer than the sentence initially handed down by the court," Jakarta High Court spokesman Andi Samsan Nganro said Tuesday.
The Jakarta High Court found Robert guilty of enriching himself and two other shareholders, Rafat Ali Rivsi and Hesyam Al Warrraq, in the purchase of fictitious securities worth $230 million in 2002, according to the panel of judges.
