Prosecutors demand death penalty for murder of three policemen

rosecutors from the Palembang Military Prosecutors’ Office demanded on Monday the death penalty for Second Cpl. Bazarsah for allegedly killing three policemen who took part in a raid against his gambling den.

The demand, read alternately by Lt. Col. Darwin Butar Butar and Maj. Lismawati at the Palembang Military Court in Palembang and accompanied by Lt. Col. Zarkasi, was made after questioning some 40 witnesses, such as those who were present at the crime scene, the victims’ family members and experts, kompas.id reported.

The witnesses were brought by both the prosecution team and the defense team.

As written in the indictment dossier read on June 11, the prosecutors believe that Bazarsah committed a series of crimes that led to the murders of three Lampung Police personnel. The first was premeditated murder as stipulated in Article 340 of the Criminal Code. Second, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as stipulated in Article 1 of Emergency Law No. 12/1951. The third offense was organizing gambling as stipulated in Article 303 and Article 55 of the Criminal Code.

Based on those facts, the Palembang Military Prosecutors’ Office demanded the judge hand down the severest punishment of the death penalty.
