Two Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel allegedly involved in the killing of three police officers during a raid on an illegal cockfighting arena in Negara Batin district, Way Kanan regency, Lampung, on Monday have turned themselves in a day after the incident.
The two soldiers were identified as Chief Warrant Officer Lubis and Chief Cpl. Basar from the Negara Batin military post under the Way Kanan district military command (Koramil), according to Sriwijaya Military Command (Kodam) spokesperson Col. Eko Syah Putra.
“They turned themselves in on Monday evening and are now in Lampung Military Police custody,” Eko said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Suspicions surfaced that the soldiers were involved in the gambling ring that owned the cockfighting arena. But Eko declined to elaborate on the two soldiers' roles as well as the possibility of other military personnel’s involvement in the incident, saying the investigation was ongoing.
He acknowledged that the two arrested soldiers were at the crime scene during the incident.
