JAKARTA: After initially losing her case in the Central Jakarta District Court, multi-talented artist Cinta Laura Kiehl reportedly won her legal battle against top production house MD Entertainment at the Jakarta High Court.
This court victory means the singer-cum-television artist will not have to pay MD Entertainment Rp 1.7 billion (US$178,000) for breaking her exclusive contract to star in a 52-episode TV soap opera.
“I first found out from tabloid Nova. I cannot comment because I do not have a copy of the decision. As far as I know, the [High] court will decide the case on Feb. 17. Our lawyer Junimart Girsang is handling the case,” Cinta’s mother Herdiana Kiehl said, as quoted by kapanlagi.com on Tuesday evening.
Herdiana also claimed she would be over the moon should her 17-year-old daughter win the case.
“I thank God, and if it’s true, I will hold a ceremony to give thanks this Saturday. But if we lose, we will appeal [the decision],” she said.
Meanwhile, MD Entertainment lawyer Afrian Bondjol denied his client had lost the case.
“The High Court process is still ongoing and no decision has been made,” Afrian said on Tuesday.
But according to Afrian, the case would be far from over even if the court decided in favor of Cinta.
“Of course we will go to the Supreme Court. We deeply regret the statement Cinta Laura’s mother made, as the [High Court’s] decision has not been taken yet,” said Afrian.
