AKARTA: FootballPlus Under-16 soccer team from Bandung, West Java, won the ANZA Youth Football Tournament after defeating Kuala Lumpur Youth Soccer Academy 1-0 in the final in Singapore over the weekend.

FootballPlus’ Willy Cahya scored the decisive goal in the 15th minute.

“The team deserved to win. We scored nine goals in six matches during the tournament and never conceded a goal. We are returning to Indonesia excited about our future,” FootballPlus CEO Jon Hamilton said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

The Bandung-based team defeated teams from Malaysia and Singapore on its way to the title.

The team’s manager, Regi Aditya, said the players had helped put Indonesia back on the South Asian soccer map. “They performed like true champions,” he added. — JP
