our comments on the result of a survey showing that the vast majority of young Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims oppose polygamy but remain reluctant to support interfaith marriages:

Polygamy and interfaith marriages can’t be compared. One is permissible by the sharia law, the other is prohibited.

All thinking people should oppose polygamy because it degrades human dignity. About interfaith marriages, I should say let love take its course, who are we to oppose such a beautiful thing as love?

Great news! Even better if only they’d played Bob Marley’s hit “One Love”. Vive la musique, vive l’amour.

Of course I am one of the young Indonesians who are reluctant to support interfaith marriages because it’ll confuse our children in deciding their religions once they’ve grown up.

And this case is different to polygamy. So, let us think and decide everything wisely.

The Indonesian, Malaysian and Filipino youths who are like brothers and sisters in many ways, go abroad for intensive studies. They meet their international friends, and soon learn that polygamy is shameful.

Yet, sometimes they can’t help, more often than not, getting into an interfaith marriage; unless they are still economically dependent on their parents who could still be strong in their respective religion.

I oppose polygamy too!

Polygamy is a great choice to balance the number of women with men.

Abyn Prima Rizki

It means that youths have thought twice!

Achi

Unfortunately, a lot of them practice it silently through free sex. Believe it or not.

Aditya Budi Setyawan

Young Indonesians and Malaysians are more modern thinking and have self-respect. So polygamy is not largely accepted for sure.

Marinee

It’s fine to have different opinions about polygamy. However, we can’t judge what is wrong and forbidden. But I tend to say no.

Hilda Krisna Dewi

I agree with the result of the survey.

Lola Marselina

In theory, we can’t deny it if it’s not prohibited, if there’s some people who don’t want to do it, no problem.

Bustomi

Polygamy is allowed for the right purpose. You can’t change it!
