AKARTA: State electricity company PT PLN said it could save around US$1.79 million per day if the delivery of the 105 billion British thermal units per day (bbtud) additional gas supply from the Grissik field in South Sumatra could be realized.
PLN division head for gas and oil-based fuels Suryadi Mardjoeki said on Friday that the gas was from two swap agreements with PLN’s allocation from the Jambi Merang field in Jambi and the Gajah Baru field in the Natuna Sea.
Because there is no available pipeline connecting the fields with PLN’s power plants in Sumatra and Java, the gas has to be swapped with the Grissik field, operated by US-based ConocoPhillips, which already has infrastructure to supply the gas to Java. Under the swap agreements, Gajah Baru will deliver 40 bbtud of gas to ConocoPhillips’s customers in Singapore, while PLN’s allocation of 65 bbtud in Jambi Merang will be taken by the Duri oil field in Riau, which is operated by PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia.
“[Oil and gas regulator] BPMigas says that the gas from the Jambi Merang swap will be delivered on Nov. 15. The agreement has been finalized, while for the Gajah Baru swap, the delivery may start in January,” Suryadi said.
